Dear Friends and Partners, We are glad to greet you once again in our Bulletin’s pages. Let me introduce myself. My name is Eleonora Akchabaeva. I started my job, as Marketing Expert for the Kyrgyz Tourism Association in July 2007 and this organization has warmly accepted me into its friendly team. The summer season is a time for active holidays and the peak tourism season for our republic. Kyrgyzstan, which includes 10 mountain tourism and alpine zones, has significant tourism resources and huge potential for the successful development of various types of extreme tourism. New feelings and an adrenalin rush is attracting new people to our country, as they want to conquer high mountains, impetuous rivers and become utterly engrossed in the highly colourful world of Kyrgyzstan’s nature. Kyrgyzstan on the Great Silk Road
The Great Silk Road is the popular name given to the system of caravan trade routes that linked Eastern and Western civilization between the Ancient and Middle Ages. The main route of the Road passed through China along the Gan-Su corridor then through the Tarima basin and the highlands of the Pamir and Tian-Shan ranges into Central Asia, Afghanistan, Iran the Eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea and still farther East to North Africa and Europe. The Great Silk Road first functioned as a route between China and the capital of the Roman Empire in the 2nd century. It was about seven thousand kilometers long. To travel along this trade route from the Mediterranean Sea to China took about 3 years. The most valuable commodity from China was silk, thus giving this transcontinental trade route its name. Unique Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan : the official name is The Kyrgyz Republic, but it is known also as Kyrgyzia. Capital: Bishkek (formerly Frunze) and the population is about 1,000 000. Area: 198,500 sq. km For such a small country – about the combined size of Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands there is only 5,000 000 people. Nationalities: There are more than 80 ethnic groups. The Kyrgyz are over 50% of the population, Russians 17%, Uzbeks 13%, Ukranians, Germans, Tartars are the main others. The Kyrgyz are one of the oldest races in Central Asia and are mentioned in ancient Chinese texts over 3000 years ago. Mountains cover 94% of the country – the Central Tien-Shan, Kyrgyz Range and the Alai Range of the Parmirs and there are three, 7,000 metre peaks – Peak Pobeda 7437 m., Peak Lenina 7134 m., Peak Khan – Tengri 7010 m.
